This is a story about what happens when you do everything right. When you invest in proper care, when your ecosystem thrives, and when your fish grow so healthy and happy that they literally outgrow their home.

This pond has been part of our care since May 2023, when we first performed an Exploratory Drain and Clean service. That initial step is always about more than cleaning, it's about truly getting to know a client's pond.

Since then, we've provided routine maintenance for nearly two years. And as with any ecosystem, the more you nurture it, the more it thrives. In this case, the client's Koi grew so well that they quickly outgrew their original home. Before the snow had even melted, we received a call: the pond needed to be enlarged.

    The Decision: Go Big

After meeting with the homeowners, the decision was made to completely transform the pond. This wasn't going to be a minor adjustment, it was a full-scale expansion designed to give those thriving Koi the space they deserved, with room to grow for years to come.

Before: 17'×11' pond, 2' deep, basic Skimmer + BioFalls. After: 30'×13' pond, 2.5' deep, advanced full ecosystem with intake bay, wetland filtration, fish cave, LED lighting, and multiple streams and waterfalls.

A Safe Haven: The Fish Cave

A Safe Haven: The Fish Cave

Every Koi pond needs a place where fish can retreat, whether from predators, extreme weather, or just to rest. The fish cave we built provides exactly that: a secure shelter integrated naturally into the rock work.

It's one of those features that the fish appreciate more than the owners might realize, until they watch their Koi confidently exploring their new domain.

    Wetland Filtration: Nature's Water Treatment

    Wetland Filtration: Nature's Water Treatment

The wetland filtration system is the powerhouse behind this pond's water quality. Plants, gravel, and beneficial bacteria work together to naturally filter the water, keeping it gin-clear without relying heavily on mechanical systems.

For a pond with growing Koi, this kind of robust filtration isn't optional, it's essential for long-term health and clarity.

    After Dark: LED Lighting Magic

    After Dark: LED Lighting Magic

With LED lighting integrated throughout the pond, the evening experience is just as spectacular as the daytime views. Watch the Koi glide through illuminated waters while the waterfalls shimmer in the soft glow.

Completed just in time for the homeowners' Independence Day celebration, giving them the perfect centerpiece for their backyard gathering.

    A note from Shawn

"Every project teaches us something new. This one reminded me why I got into this business, the moment a homeowner sees their finished feature for the first time is worth every hour of work."

    If This Sounds Like You…

If your Koi are thriving, maybe a little too well, or if you've been dreaming about expanding your water feature, we'd love to talk.

    • Your fish have grown significantly and need more space
    • You want to add more Koi but your current pond can't support them
    • Water quality is harder to maintain as your fish have grown
    • You're ready to upgrade filtration for better long-term results
    • You simply want more water feature to enjoy

Pond expansions are some of our favorite projects, because they mean we've done something right together.
